The installation draws inspiration from residential buildings in China from the mid-1990s to the early 2000s. It envisions a sensory “architecture,” where residential structures provide space for the body, and the engraving/storage medium of CDs provides space for memories and sensory experiences. The artist reconstructs architectural styles from a bygone era, documenting spaces closely linked to the spirit and lifestyle of a generation. In the process of urbanization, old residential buildings gradually disappear, akin to the replacement of once-popular VCD and DVD players by new technologies. All "windows" are hand-cut by the artist from discarded CDs collected and arranged in her hometown, symbolizing the disappearance of outdated materials. The piece serves as a nostalgic tribute to old buildings and eras. The rotating staircase, resembling a monument, also guides individual and collective reflections on the historical experience of space.
